When Soul Taker is used to destroy Lightpulsar Dragon the last thing that happens is not Lightpulsar being sent to the graveyard, but opponent recovering 1000LP. So Lightpulsar misses its activation timing and special summons no lv5 DARK dragon on the field by its effect.

And the same applies for Elemental HERO the Shining. That's why Soul Taker is so popular lately.

This conversation also took place to the forum of DN.

Funny thing, while everyone was saying that it is actually a nice addition to the would be side cards literally killing Shining and LightPulsar there was a guy, whose name I don't currently recall, who kept on saying that it is like the worst side deck card ever...

Some people have issues I suppose... Rolling Eyes

Actually, it depends on the deck. If you run a slow deck, I'm not sure how much advisable it is to side soul taker against Dragons, who can otk so easily. 2000 less LP is quite a respectable amount against that deck, unless you can also do massive damage...

The thing is that slow decks usually come with a 12 to 15 trap card lineup which means that the percentage of a successful OTK falls dramatically even for decks like Dragons...

Plus these kind of decks usually find much more plausible answers to LightPulsar in their main deck anyway... them being Bottomless Trap Hole or Dimensional Prison.

Do you guys consider this a good card? I mean, as a Main Deck card.

Would you mind comparing it to Offerings to the Doomed?

    Of course...

Offerings To The Doomed = no

    Soul Taker = yes

Come on Offerings pretty much suck...

You are minus 2 (counting the card you'll not draw) and opponent is minus 1.
Quick Play spell ok but....... no.

Plus, I do not thing that Offerings make any of the above mentioned monsters to lose timing...

The whole point is TIMING. When Soul Taker is activated and resolved, the last thing is not Lightpulsar/Shining being destroyed, it is the -1000LP. So Lightpulsar/Shining miss timing. No dragon special summoned by Lightpulsar, no HEROes returned by Shining.

If Offerings to the Doomed is activated, Lightpulsar WILL special summon a monster and Shining WILL fetch 2 HEROes back to hand. Use Smashing Ground, it's the same.

I see the thing I never really understood about missing the timing was that activating new effects does not cause a card to miss the timing. I thought that since after the Normal Summon of a Monster Peten will miss the timing, if I chained anything he would also miss the timing.

    It's ok now. Cool Cool
