Admins only (current and ex), there is no point in reading it otherwise.
This is not an official term, but it is used to describe certain monsters effects' activations that happen between Substep 4 and Substep 5 of the damage step. The different effects that activate there are ATK modifiers (Honest) and Battle Damage modifiers (Kuriboh, Desparate Tag).
A quick sum is that if a monster is attacked by Doomcaliber Knight and the player who receives the attack drops Honest, Doomcaliber negates Honest and the battle never happens, no LP damage is inflicted. This is because there has been no Damage Calculation, and damage is not calculated because Doomcaliber removed itself off the field before the battle damage is determined and attacks are compared.
If Doomcaliber (or any other monster) attacks and a Kuriboh is dropped though, Doomcaliber will negate it, but Doomcaliber is considered having attacked, and Battle damage is inflicted normally. This is because the attack was already in the process of calculating battle damage. This also applies with Suijin, another Battle damage modifier.
Also, only 1 chain is allowed in Substep 4, but practically 2 chains can be made, one with an ATK modifier (like honest) and another with a Battle damage modifier (like kuriboh).
This "problem" only applies to those cards and no one else. KONAMI's rulings for the damage step are not adequate to explain such situations so a "legendary" Substep 4.5 has been created in order to justify the existanse of 2 chains in a place where it was supposed to be only one.
